Microsoft issues emergency Windows update to restore Copilot app

Earlier this week, we reported on a messy Windows 11 update that caused Microsoft’s Copilot app to be uninstalled from some devices and unpinned from the taskbar. That same update wreaked all kinds of other havoc, including blue screens, crashing SSDs, and RDP issues.

Microsoft has now provided an emergency update that addresses the Copilot app problem, reports Windows Latest.

Copilot chaos under control again

On the official support page for the update, Microsoft has confirmed that the bug that caused the Copilot app to be uninstalled and unpinned from certain PCs has been fixed. The note reads:

“This issue has been fixed, and the affected devices are being returned to their original state. You can also reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store and pin it to the taskbar.”

As a result, Copilot is being automatically installed and pinned to the taskbar via a server update if it was deleted by the March 2025 update. For users who still don’t see the Copilot app, Microsoft recommends reinstalling the app from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft hasn’t offered an official explanation as to what actually went wrong with the earlier update. Windows Latest suspects that Microsoft inadvertently disabled the Copilot rollout for all PCs, causing the app to be mistakenly removed from systems.

Radio silence on other problems

Other Windows users are still reporting unexpected Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors, crashing SSDs, problems with Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), issues with printers using USB-connected dual mode where printing works via USB and IPP-over-USB protocols.

According to Microsoft, the error automatically prints nonsense text when you switch on your printer after disconnecting. Apart from the printer problem, Microsoft still has no solutions to the other problems, and none of them are addressed on the support page.
