The book Current Challenges of Central Europe: Society and Environment is a collective monograph published as a follow-up to the international interdisciplinary conference Our Common Present: Current Challenges of Central Europe. As the title of the book suggests, the content is dedicated to the current challenges of the central european region. Thirteen authors from five countries present their selection and understanding of these issues in eight chapters of this book. All of these chapters focus on some aspects of interaction between society and the environment from the viewpoint of the social sciences or humanities. The academic background of the authors is quite diverse, it includes philosophy, pedagogics, sociology, law, economy, environmental studies, and ecology. The chapters cover
different aspects of social development and relationship to the environment, including theoretical considerations and case studies of public perception of environmental issues, education for sustainability, economic alternatives, energy demand, or urban agriculture. The chapters raise many questions and sketch some answers to the question "What are the main current challenges of Central Europe?"
