The X3D variants of AMD’s Ryzen CPUs quickly shot to the top of the list for gamers building desktop PCs. So it was only a matter of time before AMD tried drizzling some of that special 3D V-cache sauce on laptop CPUs, too. The second-gen “Fire Range” 9955HX3D model was teased at CES 2025 and projected to hit shelves sometime in the first half of the year. It looks like they’re on track.
That’s according to VideoCardz.com, quoting laptop reseller Dream Machines. The company has pre-sale listings for laptops featuring the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor, a 16-core Zen 5 monster, paired to the newest Nvidia laptop cards topping out at the RTX 5090. The European seller is already taking pre-orders for laptops starting at over €2,500, with “Shipping time will be available soon” on the listings.
Dream Machines told the site that those laptops will arrive at the end of March or the beginning of April. Assuming that the larger gaming laptop makers like Razer, Asus, Alienware, et al. have access to the same information and product pipelines, it’s reasonable to think that their latest high-powered refreshes could arrive around the same time.
Though I stress, that is an assumption. Just because a company can get its hands on the necessary chips for an upgrade doesn’t mean that it’s ready to upgrade product lines immediately — even small changes require a lot of work to go through the process. But it seems safe to say that if you want to drop enough to buy a used car on an absolutely unhinged gaming laptop, you’ll be able to do so before the second half of 2025 arrives, with at least a few options from which to choose.
