For tech-heads, Framework’s modular laptop designs are some of the most exciting out there, offering the kind of desktop-style flexibility and upgrade options we’ve been craving for decades. So far, the company has only made one 13-inch laptop and a bigger 16-incher with a discrete GPU option. But the company hasn’t been resting on its laurels! They’ve been cooking up something new.
A splashy event page on Framework’s website is counting down to February 25th at 10:30 AM PST (or 1:30 PM EST). Framework isn’t saying exactly what’s going to be there at the “2nd Gen” event, other than that there will be new products (plural). As the announcement post says, it’s been two years since they showed off a major revision, so expectations are high — and since they’ve also made RISC-V motherboards and even a headless desktop adapter, who knows what they’re preparing.
If you happen to be a regular on the Framework online forum, and if you can make it to San Francisco, you might be in for a treat. “In addition to bringing in press and partners, we’re opening a pool of invites to the Framework Community to attend the event in person, meet the team, and get hands on with our newest products.” You can put your hat in the ring via this signup page.
Even as someone who’s used to getting sneak peeks at new tech, I think that’s a pretty cool move. It’s very much in line with Framework’s ethos. As for the rest of us, including me over in chilly Pennsylvania, we’ll have to settle for watching the live stream. It’ll be on YouTube!
