If one smart button is great, two must be phenomenal, right? Well, we’ll need to wait until we can lay hands on one, but Flic is now taking discounted pre-orders on its all-new two-button Flic Duo smart home controller.
We praised the latest generation of the Flic Button ($35) in December 2024—and the $80 Flic Twist earlier this month—for their versatility and broad ecosystem support. The Flic Duo offers the same concept but with the added versatility of dual buttons—and a lot more—because the gadget can be programmed to behave one way when it’s mounted to a wall, and in a completely different fashion when it’s in your hand, thanks to gesture support, including hold, hold-and-swipe, and hold-and-twist.

At its simplest, a wall-mounted Flic Duo can behave like a light switch: Press its large button to turn on a controlled light and its smaller button to turn that light off. But the motion-sensitive controller recognizes when the less-than-1/3-inch-thick (8mm) button has been removed it from the wall, and you can program it to respond to motion-based commands, including swipes and rotations combined with button presses. Flic points to one example of using a wall-mounted Flic Duo for lighting control, and for controlling music while it’s in your hand.
In addition to a magnetic wall mount, Flic has also developed a series of other accessories for the Duo, including a clip-on with a lanyard mount, a waterproof case for outdoor use, and stickers to help differentiate one controller from others you might deploy around your home. The manufacturer also envisions commercial applications for the new Flic Duo, including as a personal alarm for the elderly that can detect a fall and summon emergency help.
Swedish IoT company Flic expects to ship the Flic Duo in the summer of 2025, when it will sell for $59. During the pre-sale event starting today, you can pre-order the device for $49.
The company has also added a gamification element to its launch campaign, inviting customers to participate in the “Flic Adventure Game,” where fans can “unlock exclusive prizes, discounts, and benefits,” according to the manufacturer.
