[US][TECH][9] Seeking tech co-founder for a economics research non-profit.

Have you ever heard of the Miracle on Han River? It's the story of South Korea after World War II, in which they went from one of the world's poorest countries to one of the world's richest in 60 years. One may wonder, why can't we do this for every country and every city? I wondered the same thing, which is why I started Aletheium. /r/aletheium_forum What if there was a formula that city, state, and country governments could follow to make their regions better? There is actually an entire field of economics dedicated to solving this problem for entire countries (pioneered by economist W. Arthur Lewis, who ended up winning the Nobel Prize). It is called development economics, but the field does not focus on cities (nor states). Aletheium began, first, as a desire to (eventually) begin a new field of economics which focuses on improving poor cities and poor rural areas (as well as improving middle-class areas, but this is lower priority). Though, as I began to research more, I realized that the creativity used by quants in the finance industry could be used to improve the living situations of people living in poverty (e.g. doing machine learning on alternative data to evaluate the effectiveness of anti-poverty programs (this has been done before!)). So this new knowledge made me also desire to bring engineering and finance ingenuity into the world of development economics (for cities). Aletheium was also started to bring awareness to the problem in hopes to bring as many people on to do research and engineer solutions that may be used by governments one day and possibly even see a Nobel Prize. This project is still new, as you can probably tell. My background: I work as a software engineer, and have studied econ and finance on the side on-and-off for some years. I've created some machine learning projects as well. I'm looking for 1 or 2 people who are experienced engineers or economists that want to use their engineering ingenuity to help the less fortunate. We will research and publish studies together, and moderate the (very new) forum here at reddit. If you are interested, please send me a message. This is unpaid. Maybe there will be grants/donations in store for us in the future? submitted by /u/_slight_blue_third [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/cofounder/comments/piqp99/ustech9_seeking_tech_cofounder_for_a_economics/
