The opportunity:
I am looking for someone experienced in the blogging business to essentially give majority of what I already built. This is a part time, residual income play. We aren’t shooting for the stars here. Something came up that I can no longer devote the time too this project. But, all that is really left is setting up the blog process and getting professionals in this niche to write them.
Niche/ Target market:
Inventors and the businesses/ Service Providers who offer professional services to them.
Structure:
Software: The first of its kind comprehensive cloud-based Inventor’s Journal. The functioning MVP is already built via PHP/ Mysql.
Directory: Probably the most comprehensive directory of all the various types of inventor friendly service providers. Its already built using MyListings on Wordpress and I already manually filled with hundreds of listings.
About you:
Someone with a respectable understanding of the blogging business. Including how to motivate others to guest blog, advertise, SEO, etc. As well as a solid working experience with Wordpress and some Entrepreneurial experience.
About me:
I am a professional in the physical product development industry. I offer my services to established companies looking to develop a new product and/ or develop a lower cost supply chain.
Though I don’t offer my services to Inventors, I do often consult for free.
The problem:
The vast majority of advice out there for inventors is flat out wrong, and there are a lot of people taking advantage.
The result is a success rate in the lower single digits. Everyone else, they lose every penny they invest. Often tens of thousands of dollars each.
By far, the real money being made in this industry is the people inventor’s pay for help, not the inventor’s making money on their idea.
Most of the help out there is step specific and does not consider the process as a whole. Each type of Service Provider, for the most part, doesn’t care what your chances of success are, or if you have performed the early critical step first. There isn’t much out there that takes a holistic approach to making sure you are treating your invention like the business that it is.
Solution:
I did a bunch of research and interviewed a lot of Inventors. Then I built a cloud based Inventor’s Journal software. It’s designed around the process that Inventors who succeed took rather than the process that those who failed took. Breaking the entire process down into key steps. Each step is structured to give you a place to learn about that step, record all of your progress, and find additional 1-on-1 help if you need it. This utilizes both a standard directory feature and in the software a very targeted advertising structure. Both designed to give the roughly 20+ different types of Service Providers that practice in various steps of this niche, a place to reach their target customers. The idea is to add value to inventors to drive not just traffic, but create utility for a captive audience.
This is the functioning MVP I have so far. The next step is then to ask the various Service Providers in each respective step to claim the listing I created for them and write guest blogs about their step in the process and otherwise help make sure the software for their step makes perfect sense. In turn for their help, they get much greater exposure for their directory listing and more customers.
What would you do:
Fine tune the blog structure and then either start writing basic general blogs about the niche, or jump right to finding these Service Provider guest blogs. Then just work on things like SEO and otherwise optimizing the blogs potential. Do whatever you as a blog business professional think is needed.
This project was never meant to be a full time thing. It was always meant to be a residual revenue play much like a standard niche directory. But really, I’m open to your suggestions and where you want to take it.
The offer:
Since I no longer have the time to be the one driving this, I want to give majority ownership to someone who wants to drive.
I’m open to suggestions on how exactly to partner. I’m not picky.
Just know, this is pretty much fully built. You won’t have to spend much time on the normal startup stuff. If you know the blogging business, you can hit the ground running and maybe start generating directory listing revenue quickly. Though I can’t devote a lot of time to this, I absolutely can still help. Just you will be the one driving.
