There has been a lot of talk about AI chatbots over the past few years, but how much are they actually used? OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman shared in a tweet (spotted by MSPoweruser) some figures that blew us away.
ChatGPT apparently has 300 million weekly active users, and the AI chatbot receives over 1 billion messages every day. Altman also boasts that over 1.3 million developers in the US alone have built upon OpenAI for various tools and services. Maybe that isn’t too surprising when you consider how ChatGPT can improve day-to-day life.
This growth is quite stark when you look at where ChatGPT was last year. In February 2023, it crossed the 100 million weekly active users milestone, so it’s clear that things are still looking up. If you’re one of those active users, make sure you aren’t sharing any personal data in your ChatGPT messages, else it might come back to haunt you.
We’ll be seeing more of OpenAI in the coming weeks, as the company announced that starting today it will be holding 12 days of livestreams, one per day, with “a bunch of new things, big and small” being revealed and discussed in each one. The video-generating AI tool called Sora might be one of them!
