If you prefer to use dark themes on your PC, you may have recently noticed screen flashes when opening new windows in Chrome or Edge. It’s been happening on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.
According to Windows Latest, the screen flashing is due to a bug in Chromium — the open-source codebase that powers Chrome, Edge, and most other modern browsers — that causes the browsers in question to switch to a light background image for a fraction of a second.
Fortunately, according to a patch spotted by one X (Twitter) user, a Microsoft engineer has found a solution to the issue, so you can expect the problem to be history once Chrome and Edge are next updated.
A similar bug was previously found in File Explorer, but that one was already fixed with an update to version 23H2 of Windows 11.
