It’s a bad time to be in the market for a new graphics card. (“When is it not?” shouts a heckler from the back row.) When the amazing RTX 5090 and the considerably-less-amazing RTX 5080 launched last week, it took less than an hour for Nvidia’s newest GPUs to sell out. But a more affordable option, the RTX 5060, might be on the way soon.
KitGuru reports that a China-based component supplier, Chaintech, has published a financial presentation with an estimate for when both the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti will arrive: March 2025.
The info was leaked to social media. Technically, Nvidia itself hasn’t confirmed the existence of these cards, but given the fact that this level has been made since before the start of the GTX-to-RTX switch, it seems inevitable that an RTX 5060 will be made at some point. And sooner would definitely be better, as both AMD and Intel are pushing out more affordable alternatives to those high-end cards.
Chaintech is a supplier for Colorful, a well-known Nvidia partner for card sales in China, so there’s no reason to believe they’d be lying to their investors in a financial presentation. But note that this is just an indication of when parts will head to card manufacturers, not necessarily when the cards themselves will hit shelves. March is a definite possibility for retailers — in China, anyway — but it could easily be April or May before they work through the process of finally going on sale.
We have no idea what the price will be, but it’ll certainly be less than $550 (the confirmed base price for the RTX 5070). Though it’s worth pointing out that the 5060’s hardware might be underwhelming whatever Nvidia asks for it. Since the laptop version of the discrete RTX 5070 is getting only 8GB of video RAM, and the older desktop RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti got the same amount on the base model, it seems likely that that’s all we’ll get from the new version, at least as a base.
