Summary of Stephen Brumwell's White Devil

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview: #1 Susanna’s ordeal began when the group was attacked by the Abenakis. She was taken captive with her children, who were crying at a distance where they were held by their masters. She was pregnant, and soon after her daughter was born, she began having pains. The group proceeded on its way. #2 The Abenakis brought Susanna to Fort St Frédéric, or Crown Point, at the southern end of Lake Champlain. The British always called it Fort St Frédéric, or Crown Point. #3 The French had built a stockaded post on the banks of Lake Champlain in 1731. In 1754, the British colonies were forced to remain on the defensive, as Fort St Frédéric served as a base for French and Indian war parties that attacked the frontiers of New York and New England. #4 When the Johnson family was returned to their Abenaki captors in 1754, they were taken on board a vessel sailing northwards on Lake Champlain. The entire countryside was mantled in thick forest.
