The 4th Battalion Coldstream Guards operated the Panther tank in the Netherlands during the latter stages of the war playing a significant role in several key battles.In September 1944 the 4th Battalion Coldstream Guards was deployed to the Netherlands as part of Operation Market Garden. The battalion was heavily involved in the Battle of Arnhem where the Panther tank played a critical role in holding off Allied forces attempting to advance into the city. Despite being heavily outnumbered the Panther tank proved to be a formidable opponent destroying numerous Allied tanks and vehicles.Following the Battle of Arnhem the 4th Battalion Coldstream Guards continued to operate the Panther tank in the Netherlands taking part in several other key battles including the Battle of Overloon and the Battle of Venlo. The Panther tank proved to be a highly effective weapon in these engagements allowing the battalion to engage enemy forces at long range and quickly respond
