Bluesky goes down as users continue to flee Elon Musk’s X for the Twitter-like alternative

Bluesky, the popular X alternative, appeared to be down or lagging for thousands of users on Thursday morning, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.

More than 2,000 users reported issues with the site just before 9 a.m. PST. Bluesky developer Samuel Newman shared on the platform that the “site is in read-only mode for a sec because something fell over, hold tight!”

The startup has seen an influx of users joining the platform following last week’s presidential election. Many users complained of seeing a rise of offensive or violent rhetoric on X after President-elect Donald Trump was reelected, and were disillusioned with owner Elon Musk’s influence on the election.

The platform gained more than 1 million new users in the past week to reach 15 million.
