Did really well this past year at work and have been able to put aside approx 60k for investing. Looking to do some long term investing. Not into options and day trading.
Over the past month I’ve been researching certain sectors and watching the markets a little bit to ease myself in before making any big decisions. As of right now I don’t see a lot of deals in tech so my initial strategy is this:
-20% of my portfolio in bank stocks like BMO and scotia as they are discounted right now due to high interest rates and deal a good dividend. Divest out of in 5-10 years.
-20% in gold mining companies like kinross, torex and barrick
-15% in riskier stocks like the cannabis sector.
-20% in fusion tech related stocks like cenovus, google and chevron.
And I’m not sure what to do with the remaining 25%. Real estate is a big no for me. Tech seems a little overhyped for my liking. Healthcare growth stocks is so heavy on R&D that most of them die off due to running out of cash runway. Is there any cutting edge technology or growth industries that could be huge in 20-30 years from now to get in on the ground floor? Maybe lithium mining companies due to the requirements for batteries and fusion tech? What are your thoughts on my potential portfolio and any suggestions are welcomed.
