I've been using Goodreads since 2009. They're the IMDB of books – which is appropriate since they're both owned by Amazon. Since Amazon acquired them in 2013 (for $130m), they've done only the bare minimum to keep the site up and running. Let's change that! The same way Letterboxd built a better movie site than IMDB, we can build a better book site than Goodreads. While there are other book websites out there, I'm confident this is a market that's set for disruption. We just have to create it. About me: I'm a full-stack web developer, who's worked at a bunch of startups as a software developer, product manager, and various other roles. A startup I worked for exited, leaving me with a lot of free time. I plan to work on this idea until its natural conclusion (whatever that happens to be). I like to move fast, but put the happiness of the team and the user first. I can handle the technical details to build what we need, but we may need to bring on additional developers at some point to move faster (if you're a React or React Native Developer and want to work on this, hit me up too). About you: You're a reader/audiobook lover. You love empathizing with users and brainstorming what could be. You can create prototypes of your ideas while taking into account device limitations, state differences, and screen size. You have your own visual style, are obsessive about having a design system, and seek to create visuals that make people smile. You don't bat an eye at designing icons or graphics and love to use animations and movement to surprise and delight. Years of experience are less important than an obsession with shipping an insanely good user experience. If you're a designer who is excited by this idea, I'd love to chat. :) Side note: I'm only half kidding about building this out of spite. It's also a super-fun idea in a field that would be fun to work in. submitted by /u/Dyogenez [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/cofounder/comments/mxrycu/usatech20_fullstack_developer_looking_for_design/
