This week, Symfony added a new shortcut to render forms and set the needed HTTP status code when the form contains errors. In addition, Symfony appointed Oskar Stark as a new member of the Symfony Core team and it published an update on the diversity initiative.

New Symfony Core Team Member: Oskar Stark

You might already know Oskar Stark as a Symfony Documentation Core Team member. Even if his first pull request on symfony/symfony was in 2015, he recently started to make many changes to the Notifier component, making great contributions to stabilize the component for Symfony 5.3. With Oskar joining the core team, there is now 20 Symfony Core Team members who take care of managing Symfony’s code. Update from the Diversity Initiative

We wanted to update the community a bit about things happening within the diversity initiative. First up let us talk about how remote conferences are actually an opportunity for diversity and inclusion. Not requiring traveling reduces costs and other hurdles like visa and requirement for family arrangements. This week, Symfony added support for binary/negatable options in console commands and introduced a feature in PhpUnitBridge to log deprecations into a file. In addition, it fixed some PHP 8 compatibility in DependencyInjection component and added future PHP 8.1 compatibility in VarDumper component.

This week, Symfony development activity focused on fixing some small issues. In addition, we published the Symfony 2020 Year in Review to summarize the Symfony activity during the past year.

Symfony 2020 Year in Review

2020 was a year like no other. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the personal and professional lives of millions of people. Symfony was no exception and we struggled at times during this year. Nonetheless, thanks to your help and support, we won through and 2020 was a good year for Symfony, all things considered.

Releases¶ We released two new major versions: Symfony 4.1 in May and Symfony 5.2 in November. We also published 59 maintenance versions in six different branches (3.4, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1

This week, Symfony 4.4.18, [5.1.10](Symfony 5.1.10 released) and [5.2.1](Symfony 5.2.1 released) maintenance versions were released. Meanwhile, the pre-conference workshops for the next Symfony conferences were announced. Lastly, a special Christmas Sale was announced for all certifications.
