Show HN: GitHub-assistant – Natural language questions from your GitHub data

Simon(sfarshid) and I spend a lot of time on GitHub. As data nerds we put together a quick tool to explore your repository’s data.

How it works:

- Data Loading: We use dlt to pull data (issues, PRs, commits, stars) from GitHub

- Semantic Layer: Relta wraps the underlying dataset into a semantic layer so the LLM doesn’t hallucinate.

- Text-to-SQL: A text-to-SQL agent transforms your plain-English question into a query using the semantic layer

- Generative Charts: assistant-ui dynami

Show HN: Get e-signatures & pay per signed doc

Woke up today with a 100-degree fever & found out Google is now our competitor.

Last week, we started building signwith.co/ - a simple, pay-per-use e-signature tool for people who are struggling with complex e-sign tools.

The plan was to build quietly, run a private beta, get 50 users in 15 days, and then do a launch. Easy peasy.

But since Google dropped into the e-signature space - we needed to talk.

So after 30 minutes of existential dread, a lot of “what are we even doing?” though

Splash Screen Design Best Practices

Splash screen is the first screen that users see when they launch a mobile app. Despite the splash screen being displayed only for a few seconds, it immediately forms a first impression about the product. https://webdesignernews.com/splash-screen-design-best-practices/

UX and User Testing in the Age of AI-Driven Web Navigation

This ambitious project introduces autonomous AI agents designed to navigate the web, execute tasks, and provide actionable results, fundamentally reshaping how users interact with digital platforms. https://webdesignernews.com/ux-and-user-testing-in-the-age-of-ai-driven-web-navigation/

Why “Just UX” Is No Longer Enough? What is XQ?

Digital products and services are becoming a bigger part of our daily lives. Every new app claims to meet user expectations, anticipate their needs, and be “user-friendly.” As a result, the concept of User Experience (UX) has gained importance in almost every industry. https://webdesignernews.com/why-just-ux-is-no-longer-enough-what-is-xq/

Corporate Presentation Templates for Premiere Pro

So, how do you make your presentations memorable? Adding video to the mix is one way to get a viewer’s attention. It keeps people engaged while helping to explain concepts and ideas. Besides, a video is endlessly more interesting than an old static PowerPoint file. https://webdesignernews.com/corporate-presentation-templates-for-premiere-pro/

Understanding the DOMContentLoaded Event

The DOMContentLoaded event has been around for a long time and has often been used as a web performance metric. However today it has mostly been replaced by more modern user-focussed metrics like the Core Web Vitals. https://webdesignernews.com/understanding-the-domcontentloaded-event/

Safeguarding Artistic Expression in the Age of AI

Nothing is more personal, mysterious, and valuable for a creative person than their individual artistic style. No matter their medium, the idiosyncratic way an artist expresses themselves is not only their currency in the creative market, it is fundamentally how their past and human experience informs their unique point of view — and it is how they represent themselves. https://webdesignernews.com/safeguarding-artistic-expression-in-the-age-of-ai/

Our favorite books we read in 2024

We may be a bit technology-obsessed here, but the Engadget team does occasionally get around to low-tech activities, like reading. Well, some of us read on ereaders or our smartphones, but you get the point — books are great, and we read some exceptional ones this year that each deserve a shoutout. These are some of the best books we read in 2024.

Lexar Play 4TB SSD review: Another good SSD for your PS5

The Lexar Play is a gaming-oriented follow-up to the NM790. It keeps the good all-around performance and power efficiency but adds a heatsink and an 8TB SKU. The MSRP is far too high, but street pricing has already dropped to more reasonable levels.

Ask HN: Do you backup your Emails?

I wonder if its just me or other people feel the urge as well to backup their emails. I feel oddly attached to my older emails and have the fear of loosing something important which might hide in my mail archives.

Also I don't necessarily trust some of my email providers (nor my self hosted one) and soonish have to clear one out because I run out of storage.

So what tools are you using to backup your emails? Is there a service which takes care of this automatically?
